Who would you say was the most influential DJ or producer in the history of Scouse House?

Was it Lee Butler because of his impact as a DJ and promoter, Mike Di Scala and Ultrabeat, Ian Redman, Alex K, Rob Cain or somebody else entirely?

Who helped define that unmistakable combination of bouncing basslines, pitched up vocals and high energy melodies? Post your choice, explain why, and share the tune or set that best represents their influence.

Easy Mike Di Scala he was basically every Release going.

I was a big fan of nick skitz back in the day then found out about Alex k.... Got into music vs stu Alan on key 103... Lee butler on 96.7, pez tellet clubzone and then Mike di scala and wayne followed that's my path to scouse

That’s a proper route into the sound. Nick Skitz and Alex K were the gateway for loads of people because they had that harder Aussie bounce, but Stu Allan, Lee Butler and Pez Tellett brought it closer to home through the radio. Once you got onto Mike Di Scala and the Liverpool productions, you could really hear how that sound developed into what we now call Scouse House big melodies, pitched vocals and that unmistakable bouncing bassline. Proper era.

Did you prefer the more commercial vocal side of the scene, or the harder underground bounce that you’d hear later in the night?

Absolutely Clubland and AATW deserve massive credit. They brought so many producers and different styles together under one banner and helped take the sound from local clubs and radio shows to a national audience. For a lot of people, those compilations were their first proper introduction to the scene. Which Clubland album do you reckon had the strongest tracklist?

I started with Happy Hardcore, found a mix tape in a church car park, Hixxy, Vibes, Force and styles, Club Kinetic, Pleasure Drome, Ard Dock, Helter Skelter, Dreamscape, listing to Key 103, then moved on to early scouse house via finding the the Klubbheads and all the Dutch sound that was coming across on Blue Records, as the scene was taking off with the buzz club, paradox, state and 051, got into trance and hard house when it boomed, but then moved back into scouse house in the wigan pier era with trance and hard house still being fitted in. Locals then became 051, Nation / Cream and the pleasure rooms. Now mixing bounce with scouse house classics that fit in with the sound.
