Absolutely Clubland and AATW deserve massive credit. They brought so many producers and different styles together under one banner and helped take the sound from local clubs and radio shows to a national audience. For a lot of people, those compilations were their first proper introduction to the scene. Which Clubland album do you reckon had the strongest tracklist?

Did you prefer the more commercial vocal side of the scene, or the harder underground bounce that you’d hear later in the night?

That’s a proper route into the sound. Nick Skitz and Alex K were the gateway for loads of people because they had that harder Aussie bounce, but Stu Allan, Lee Butler and Pez Tellett brought it closer to home through the radio. Once you got onto Mike Di Scala and the Liverpool productions, you could really hear how that sound developed into what we now call Scouse House big melodies, pitched vocals and that unmistakable bouncing bassline. Proper era.
